Video. Moroccans stranded in Sebta: tightened controls to prevent swimming escape

DR.

The Spanish authorities have stepped up controls around the beaches of Sebta where many Moroccans stranded in the enclave since the borders were closed are trying to swim back to their country. To date, more than 150 illegal swim out attempts have been recorded.

Faced with the new phenomenon of reverse migration, the Spanish authorities have put in place new mechanisms to thwart these illegal exits. In recent days, local authorities have helplessly witnessed several cases of swimming flight of Moroccans stranded in the Spanish enclave. The latter, blocked for several months, during which time Morocco decided to close its borders after the spread of Covid-19, are trying to flee the Spanish enclave by all means.

Thus, the last device of the local police was to multiply the checkpoints, “kinds of huts placed on the sandy area where the swimmers start their race to reach the Moroccan coast”, reports the site. The Ceuta Lighthouse.

After three successive repatriation operations from the Sebta enclave, Morocco ended these operations on Sunday May 24, leaving just under 900 of its nationals awaiting repatriation.
