Slovak hockey player Juraj Slafkovský played his first game in the NHL. With the Montreal Canadiens shirt, he started a duel against rival Toronto Maple Leafs.

During the pre-game warm-up, he and two other players did the traditional rookie round when they were alone on the Montreal ice.

Here’s how he got on the ice before the game.

In the first period he skillfully moves the puck from the defensive zone to the attack, where it is stopped only at the cost of a foul. It was one of Montreal’s three power games in the first period, they used none and lost the first period 0: 1.

In the second period, Cole Caufield scored twice for the home team and Denis Malgin scored once for the visitors, so the score was 2: 2 before the last period.

In the third twenty-minute period, Slafkovský prevented Auston Matthews, who is his model, from scoring a goal with a good defensive intervention.

With two minutes and thirty seconds left, the Montreal room exploded with joy as the Canadiens took the lead thanks to Sean Monahan, but William Nylander equalized forty seconds later. However, nineteen seconds before the end of the match, the Toronto defense made a serious mistake, which Josh Anderson used to score the winning goal for 4: 3.

Montreal thus won the first game of the season after losing all eight matches of the event.

Slafkovský played 10:34 minutes in the third attack. He had one shot, one shot, and one blocked shot each. Overall, he performed well, had good game passes, made no unnecessary mistakes and held up.

Montreal awaits the second game on Saturday at 1:00 our time on the Detroit Red Wings ice.
