In Germany, 500,000 tons of food end up in retail waste every year. Dark spots on the fruit or expired shelf life are the reason. Food is thrown away even though it is still edible. The so-called food sharing goes against this. Volunteers “save” the food from being destroyed and help with distribution – for example in Hanover (Lower Saxony).
