Or did a flat tire cause the fall? Delayed images of the crash focus on Natnael Tesfatsion, the Lidl-Trek rider who crashed just behind Remco Evenepoel. According to Allan Davis, ex-rider and former sports director of the Lotto team, the Eritrean crashes due to a flat front wheel and appears to tap Remco Evenepoel’s rear wheel.

Although Davis is cautious in his assessment, it could explain the fall. “The more I watch and analyze these images, the more I think Natnael Tetfatsion COULD have had a flat tire before losing control of his front wheel and crashing,” he wrote on X.
The Eritrean himself escaped with bruises and abrasions, but Remco Evenepoel suffered more damage. He broke his collarbone and his shoulder blade on the right side.
