At a wedding celebration, the revelers found one of the guests – 31-year-old Alina Ansoni – lying unconscious on the ground. Perhaps the woman had fallen. EMS was called. A brigade arrived from Kaugrii. Doctor’s assistant Gints White advised the victim to lie down, but did not take him to the hospital.

When another NMPD team took Anson to the hospital the next day, it was not possible to save her life – the woman had brain death. The dead Anson’s organs were donated to other people, while White was fired from his job.

As reported by LTV, the Zemgale district court has now sentenced White to a one-year suspended prison term and a four-year ban on practicing medicine for not providing medical assistance to the victim.

White partially admitted his guilt in court, although he told LTV that he did not admit his guilt at all, because he did not know how the victim was traumatized. The former medic claimed that when he arrived at the call, the woman had no signs of trauma. According to Zemgale district court judge Ligita Sprigule, Vaits made a guess during the trial that maybe after the medics left, the victim’s relatives carried her to the bed and threw her to the ground themselves.

The court has found it possible to impose a suspended sentence on the accused, as it is certain that he will not commit criminal offenses in the future, and White has not been previously punished. Daiga Vāciete, the prosecutor of the West Zemgale Prosecutor’s Office, also considered it possible to impose a conditional sentence on the accused.

NMPD director Liene Cipule commented to “Panorāma” that the specific call, after which the young woman died, was an unprecedented case. “It was not a medical error, but a negligent attitude, and it should be judged in court!” said Cipule.

The court verdict can still be appealed. The prosecutor will not, but the mother of the dead woman has not yet decided.
