Due to a corona outbreak at the technical staff, promise coach Arnar Vidarsson had to be called in haste to coach Iceland against Belgium. At Extra Time he called himself “former national coach”. “I lost the match, that’s why I lost my job”, Vidarsson laughs.
Iceland lost despite a creditable match. Vidarsson was particularly impressed how the Belgians manifested themselves off the field. “Belgian football can be proud of such people. Roberto Martinez: so humble, respectful and pleasant to deal with.”
“Lukaku too, by the way. I talked to him for 5 to 10 minutes shortly after the match and he had already analyzed everything.” Yes, Arnar, we had imagined it differently.
