GERB-UDF candidate Victoria Mihailova is the new mayor of Kaloyanovo municipality, Plovdiv district. She won the runoff against Plamen Nikolov from the NFSB with 2,082 to 1,355 votes, the results show.
Mihailova is from the UDF, which is a coalition partner of GERB.
The runoff in Kaloyanovo passed with a turnout of 39.43%. 3622 exercised their right to vote out of a total of 9187.
“The good coalition policy we have pursued over the years has led to this brilliant result. Out of 17 mayors in the Plovdiv region, GERB-UDF has 11,” commented GERB regional coordinator Georgi Maradjiev with satisfaction. According to him, political forces such as ITN and BSP were far behind them.
The by-elections in Kaloyanovo came after former mayor Georgi Georgiev was given a suspended sentence for driving after using drugs.
