Especially for De Jager, internationally known as NikkieTutorials, Mids crawled in front of the webcam as ‘VikkieTutorials’. Nikkie was in a different location for the camera and Victor had to blow up a balloon and hold it in her hands. ‘Vikkie’ took out a needle, poked at the camera and sure enough: Nikkie’s balloon popped. And that was just the beginning.

Nikkie was instructed to choose a card from a deck and sign it. Then she had to shuffle the cards and spread them out on her laptop. Victor not only guessed which card she had chosen, he also apparently took it out of the game through the camera, because suddenly he had it in his hand, including Nikkie’s signature.

She was speechless, especially because she secretly thought that celebrities in Mindf * ck always in the conspiracy. “Huh?” she just exclaimed. “I really think this is so bad. I can cry. How is this possible? This is never possible.”

For the final piece, Victor and Nikkie met in a room with all kinds of photos of De Jager’s make-up creations on the wall. Mids, who had a paper bag over his head, handed her a letter asking her to choose three creations and combine them on her face with the makeup in the studio. As she did so, Victor cut pieces from a sheet of paper with a knife to create a sort of stencil.

Nikkie, convinced that she was completely free to make her own choices, gave herself a Wonder Woman forehead, a rainbow on her eyes and the mouth of a skull. When she was done, Victor told me that he had put his makeup on earlier in the day as well. He took the bag off his head and it turned out to be exactly the same look to have as Nikkie.

“I’m leaving!” she yelled. “I really have goosebumps to my bone. How is this possible? Mama, I want to go home.” Her choices may not have been as free as she thought. Victor handed her his stencil, which she placed over the letter she had read. Thus, only a few words remained of the letter, instructing her to use the Wonder Woman, rainbow and skull make-up.

De Jager dropped the letter in astonishment. “How scary this is! I really thought this was the weirdest and coolest thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing. I had a lot of expectations, but this is really beyond everything.”
