VfL Bochum can crown its strong season by staying up in the league on Sunday. We explain the possible scenario in which the champagne corks pop in the evening.
Trainer Thomas Rice had last spoken of the “miracle” relegation that the VfL Bochum want to achieve soon. That could become reality as early as the coming 30th match day. A prerequisite for this is a win Sc freiburg (Saturday, April 16, 3:30 p.m.).
Reis had already emphasized how difficult it would be after Tuesday’s media-public training session. “We know that we have to give everything and that we will play against a physically very strong team.”

A draw in the other two places would not be enough for VfL if they had their own three, with Hertha and Bielefeld having significantly worse goal difference.
But then Bochum could no longer be relegated directly because the two competitors still meet on the 32nd matchday. This means that only one of the two could then make up the twelve points behind VfL.
If they are successful in Breisgau, Bochum could celebrate on Sunday evening at the earliest. Arminia Bielefeld’s home game against FC Bayern Munich will be over at around 5:20 p.m. If Hertha BSC also lost against Augsburg the day before, nothing would stand in the way of a blue and white party.
