Marko teases Toto Wolff

Helmut Marko cannot resist a swipe at Mercedes Motorsport Director Toto Wolff. “It’s funny that Toto says they’re looking at the kids,” he notes. “Because no Mercedes Junior has ever entered the cockpit to date.”

And the Austrian is not entirely wrong with that. With George Russell and Esteban Ocon you got two juniors in Formula 1, but a Mercedes junior has never been in the cockpit.

Because so far there were only: Nico Rosberg, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. Ingenious people could say that Michael Schumacher was a Mercedes junior. But that was really a completely different time. And you didn’t exactly bring a junior into your team back then;)

Frentzen made his debut at Sauber

Heinz-Harald Frentzen made his Formula 1 debut in 1994 at Sauber – so answer b. He retired from his debut in Brazil and ended the season in 13th place with seven points. In 1997 he moved to Williams, where he became vice world champion behind team-mate Jacques Villeneuve (after Michael Schumacher’s exclusion).

However, Frentzen had his most successful time at Jordan, for which he won two victories in 1999 and again came third in the World Cup. He later let his career fade away with Prost, Arrows and Sauber again – the cycle closes.

We have recommended the column of our editor-in-chief Christian Nimmervoll to you a few times, but since of course there are always new readers, I would like to refer to this article again. It really contains EVERYTHING you need to know about Sebastian Vettel’s future decision.

Marko: Vettel stops

Of course Sebastian Vettel still dominates the themed landscape. His Ferrari out was decided last week and it is still not clear what the German will do in the future. But there are more voices who believe in a Formula 1 retirement of the four-time world champion. The latest voice comes from Helmut Marko, who of course knows Vettel very well.

“Unfortunately for him the seats in the top teams are filled,” says the Austrian in ‘ORF’, thereby again excluding a Red Bull comeback for Vettel. He says: If Vettel cannot find a team with which he will be at the forefront in the medium term – at the latest in a year or two – “then he will not do this to a midfield team and will stop.”

Marko also emphasizes that leaving Ferrari was the right decision. “He no longer felt comfortable at Ferrari and no longer received the support he wanted. Before he was there with half a heart, he pulled the plug.”
