Verstappen explains why Jeddah doesn’t have to be a ‘Mercedes track’

With the lightning-fast corners and a large part of the circuit full of throttle, the Saudi Arabian GP should be in favor of Mercedes. At least, those are the predictions of many. However, Max Verstappen explains that there are plenty of opportunities in Jeddah and that Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton are not necessarily the big favorites.

“We don’t know it all yet, it’s a new circuit”, the Red Bull driver kicks off at Sky Sports. “It is not yet known how the grip is and besides that anything can happen on a street circuit. We just have to make sure we put a good car and are comfortable on the track, because there is no room for mistakes.”

Adjustment becomes key according to Verstappen

In addition to the confidence a driver must have in the circuit, Verstappen thinks that the setting will make the biggest difference. Engine power is important in Jeddah, but the Dutchman does not expect the Mercedes power source to suddenly dominate. “It’s a special track. We don’t know what the competition will do, but we just have to do our very best.”

In addition to high speeds, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit is characterized by the walls around the asphalt. This requires a lot of confidence from the drivers. If you go over the limit, you will soon be punished with damage or even a failure. This makes the adjustment and the feeling in the car extremely important.
