“VEF Rīga” wins the seventh success in a row in the Latvian-Estonian league

20 points and nine rebounds for Kail Alman, 18 points for Aize Pinjeiro, 16 points and five rebounds for Michael Kaiser, 13 for Krister Zorik and 12 for Artis Atem.

“VEF Rīga” with seven wins is the leading team of the tournament, but Liepaja residents with two successes can be found in the 11th position in the competition of 13 clubs.

For the Vefis, this was only the second away game of the season and the first in November. He previously played away at the start of the season, when he managed to win the Ogri with 81:63. Afterwards, the people of Riga destroyed “Liepāja” at home (104: 63), but the next successes were celebrated against “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University College” (105: 90), “Ventspils” (96:93), “University of Latvia” (LU) (95:54) and again “Ogri” (83:76).

The Kurzeme club has fared much more modestly this season, as it had managed to win two victories in the previous six dues. They were won against LU (83:82) and Valmiera club (88:86).

Last season, Liepāja team remained in the last place in the competition of 14 teams. And also in both mutual fights the Rigans were superior, although the victories went hand in hand with great effort – 76:70 and 81:76.

The basketball players of the capital have celebrated the victory in the last ten battles at the expense of both teams. The last time Liepaja residents won the test match in September 2016 was 77:74, but in the official match “Liepāja” celebrated the victory in May 2015, winning the guests with 64:59.

From October 3 to December 5, 30 games between Latvian teams are planned. Meanwhile, seven Estonian teams will also play their mini-tournaments.

In the main tournament of the third season of LIBL, 13 teams are planned to hold a two-round tournament, after which there will be playoffs – a quarter-final series and a “Final Four” tournament.

13 teams will participate in the LIBL championship in the 2020/21 season – six Latvian units – “VEF Rīga”, “Ogre”, “Ventspils”, “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University College”, “University of Latvia” and “Liepāja”, as also seven Estonian teams – Tallinn “Kalev” / ”Cramo”, Rapla “Avis Utilitas”, “Parnu Sadam”, “University of Tartu”, Rakvere “Tarvas”, Tallinn “Kalev” / TLU and “TalTech”.

In the first Latvian-Estonian joint league tournament in the 2018/2019 season, Ventspils won 15 teams in both the main tournament and the Final 4, but the 2019/2020 season remained unfinished, ranking first in the main tournament, which was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. occupying “VEF Rīga”, the second – “Ogre”, the third – “Kalev” / “Cramo” led by Roberts Štelmahers and the fourth – “Ventspils”.
