“Ventspils” basketball team has supplemented the composition with Latvian defender Kristaps Mediss, the club informs.

31-year-old Mediss will move to Ventspils from the VEF Rīga team, where he spent the previous season.

As a member of the Rigans, he participated in 26 Latvian-Estonian Basketball League games, in which he scored an average of 3.2 points, won 2.1 rebounds and made 0.9 assists, spending an average of 17 minutes on the field. In the FIBA Champions League, Aluksne participated in 12 matches, in which he scored 3.3 points on average in 14 minutes, won 1.8 balls under the baskets and made 0.5 assists.

In the highest division of the Latvian Championship, the defender made his debut in 2008 as a member of the ASK Rīga team. In the 2010/2011 season, Mediss became the Latvian champion, helping to become the first national champion in the VEF Rīga team. Next, the basketball player represented the teams “Turība”, “Jēkabpils”, “Jūrmala” / “Fenikss” and “Barons kvartāls”.

In the 2017/2018 season, he represented the Italian champion Venice Umana Reyer farm club San Vendemiano Rucker Sanve. He helped the team move up the division from the fourth league, but could not play in that tournament because only local basketball players can be in the B-series.

It has already been reported that this week “Ventspils” announced the accession of defender Artūrs Ausēja, center player Andrejs Šeļakovs and American striker Krisa Kofija

At the time of the termination of the Latvian-Estonian league, the Ventspils team took the fourth place in the tournament table, but in the Latvian championship, the people of Kurzeme were awarded a bronze medal. Rumors have been circulating for a long time that the long-term assistant Gints Fogels will take over the corner of the Ventspils team, and, as reported by the portal Sportacentrs.com this week, the unit started training on Monday under his leadership.
