Cichanouská called on her supporters to intensify strikes in factories

“My dear factory workers, you are a symbol of the new free Belarus. The future of the country and of our children depends on your unity and determination. I ask you to extend the strikes, “said Cichanouská on a recording from Lithuania, which is her current asylum.

A number of Belarusian companies announced the cessation of production on Friday. According to the government, however, the extent of the strikes is insignificant. All companies in the real sector of the country’s economy are functioning normally, the Russian RIA Novosti agency quoted Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko as saying.

Belarus is facing its biggest crisis since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Tens of thousands of protesters are calling for the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko, whose alleged re-election in the August 9 election was falsified.

They consider Cichanouska to be the real winner of the election, which, according to official results, won 10.1 percent of the vote, while Lukashenko won 80.1 percent of the vote, according to the Central Election Commission.
