Vaucluse. Counterfeit money in Avignon: a couple arrested

On Wednesday November 18, the police arrested a couple in a Travelers’ camp, rue du Petit-Bois, in the Courtine area in Avignon.

The couple were taken into police custody for possession and circulation of counterfeit money, concealment of theft, possession of a prohibited weapon.

The Avignon police had received complaints from a dozen traders located in Vaucluse, Gard, Bouches-du-Rhône but also in Isère and Côte-d’Or.

Banknotes of 100 euros and 50 euros

These traders had been given counterfeit bills or had noticed the deception in time and had refused counterfeit money. Most of them were counterfeit 100 euro bills and a few for 50 euros. The damage is assessed between 500 and 1,000 euros between July 2019 and June 2020.

During the search of the couple’s home, in addition to counterfeit tickets, the police discovered a stolen Renault Clio with makeup, a shotgun and a Breitling with a filed serial number. Everything has been seized.

During her police custody, the woman admitted the facts and the participation of her spouse. The latter, on the other hand, denied the facts en bloc. They will both be presented to the criminal court next March.
