Vasil Bozhkov was greeted with thunderous applause upon his arrival at the Sofia Court of Appeal. Together with the businessman is his lawyer, as well as his supporters who carry placards with slogans: “NO to silence, no to clubs”, “You cannot silence the truth”.
There are about a hundred people in the lobby of the Courthouse who support Vasil Bozhkov. The sound of a bagpipe was also heard in the lobby. Their initiative was announced on the Facebook page of the “Bulgarian Summer” formation of the businessman.

The son of Vasil Bozhkov Anton and his wife Iva Sofianskadaughter of the former mayor of Sofia Stefan Sofianski, are also in court to support the businessman. For the first time, members of his family showed up to support him since Bozhkov returned to Bulgaria.
I want a lighter measure, maybe a cash bond or a bond, said Vasil Bozhkov in front of the court. The Sofia Court of Appeal is currently deciding whether to uphold the businessman’s appeal against his permanent detention in one of the cases against him, related to one of his businesses. The jury retired minutes ago into deliberations to make a decision.

During the meeting Bozhkov’s lawyer – Georgi Gatev, asked the court not to impose any restraining order on his client or that it be a “signature”. According to him, the accusation against Bozhkov is unfounded and illegal, as it was issued in violation of the Constitution. The defense attorney noted that his client had returned to the country voluntarily, citing a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights that said such action must be assessed by the court.
Gatev announced that in the case of cultural values yesterday, after bringing the charges against him, the prosecutor’s office set a monetary guarantee for Vasil Bozhkov in the amount of BGN 1.5 million.

Prosecutors in the case asked that Bozhkov’s appeal be dismissed, saying there was a reasonable suggestion he committed the crime he was charged with. At the present time, all prerequisites for the detention of Vasil Bozhkov are presentthey added.
The only reason why the investigation has not been completed so far is that Bozhkov should be summoned and the documents in the case handed to him, said prosecutor Angel Kanev. He pointed out that the danger of hiding the accused is real, as Bozhkov has numerous contacts and property assets in places such as Mongolia, Moldova, Georgia and in offshore areas – Cyprus, British Virgin Islands. “The accused has established systematic criminal intentions”Kanev said.
The investigation into this case is nearing its end, the accusation of Bozhkov and several other people is yet to be refined, the prosecutor added.
