Various carnival parades canceled due to strong wind | NOW

Due to the strong wind, various carnival parades have been canceled, including in Noordwijkerhout and Leidschendam in South Holland, Dongen in Brabant and Weert in Limburg. In the north and north-west of the country, Saturday yellow code applies due to strong gusts of wind. It was already announced on Friday evening that the carnival parade in Eindhoven was canceled due to the weather.

The carnival associations of Ankeveen, Noordwijkerhout and Leidschendam have decided, in consultation with the municipalities and security services, to cancel the parades because the strong wind causes danger to high carnival cars.

“Safety for participants, spectators and volunteers is paramount and we have strong doubts as to whether we can guarantee it sufficiently”, the Leidschendam association De Damzwabbers told Broadcasting West.

The parade in Weert in Limburg is also canceled due to bad weather.

Canceled carnival parades

  • Eindhoven (North Brabant)
  • Dongen (North Brabant)
  • Weert (Limburg)
  • Leidschendam (South Holland)
  • Delft (South Holland)
  • Noordwijkerhout (South Holland)
  • Kwadendamme (Zeeland)

It was also decided on Friday that the carnival procession in Eindhoven will not take place because the wind could blow the wagons, the Federation of Eindhoven Carnival said. Instead of the parade a small tour through the city will be held with the ‘city prince’, led by a mop orchestra. The prince will start on foot, but if it rains, he may take the bus.

As far as we know, carnival parades continue throughout the rest of the country. The floats will be adjusted due to the weather. For example, large floats are partly folded in Tilburg and fewer large floats are driving in Maastricht.
