Want a good thriller to occupy you during confinement? We have a suggestion: Varcolac, the wolf man of the Landes, a breathtaking thriller signed great robber. In the background, the forest of Landes of Gascony and its traditions, where bloody and mysterious events are linked.
A local journalist, adventurer, strong-headed and with a face marked by his rugby years, leads the investigation at the risk of his life. Multiplying his discoveries, the hero meets ferocious wolves, mafia who are just as much, brainless animalists as well as the last survivors of the Poteau camp… An explosive mix in a 100% Bazadaise atmosphere.
“Gascon happiness” as inspiration
This story was born from the pen of a man, great robber. Behind this pseudonym, hides-barely- Ludovic Robet, the editor of Republican.
Vendée in heart and mind, this lover of good food, passionate about hunting and rugby, quickly acclimated to our little piece of Gascony. “I have lived in the region for seven years,” he explains. Here, I discovered Gascon happiness and its quality of life. “
It is therefore here, in the middle of the pines, that the author drew his inspiration. Varcolac, the wolf man of the Landes is his very first novel set in South-Gironde. A frankly convincing first.
The author says:
“I had fun putting in scene a journalist not idealized, but caricatured, admits the author. What interested me, too, is to work on this decor, this local atmosphere around the cathedral square, these local people and the forest, which is not as monotonous as what we are see when you drive along it. “
No monotony, precisely, in Werewolf. In the 274 pages of the novel, Bazas, our Gascon city, usually so peaceful, finds itself in turmoil and becomes the scene of incredible acts.
Rhythm, action, twists and turns and an end at the height of the story … This Bazadais thriller deserves to be taken into his hands.
“A terrifying surge”
Now is the time to set the scene. So here is the story of Werewolf : “On the edge of the Gironde Landes forest, ivy is busy erasing the ruins of the Poteau brothels. But crime and the trade in the flesh have left a legacy here. A woman is abducted from a parking lot. Hunters have disappeared and wolves haunt the undergrowth. Animal activists are demonstrating their demands with violence. Anger and incomprehension merge in the countryside. The drug trade flourishes in the shelter of the tall pines and blood flows on the old cobblestones. The editor-in-chief of the local newspaper is dragged down in spite of himself by a terrifying wave. The forces of evil emerge from tormented souls. They have free rein when darkness spreads there. “
“My characters still have stories to live”
“How it started, I don’t really know anymore, indicates great robber. In this book, there is one observation: the countryside, quiet with its traditions, is now subject to lifestyles that have never been its own. It is the story of the evil of the city which is spreading in the countryside… ”
At 54 spring, great robber sign there a particularly successful work. The icing on the cake: it may well be that the author is rampant again. “It seems to me that my characters still have stories to live, smiles the person concerned. I found some pretty cool ideas… ”
