Vannucci Takes the Lead on First Day of 2023 FIM World Supersport 300 Championship Season

The first day of the 2023 FIM World Supersport 300 Championship season has just ended on the Assen circuit. Three tenths separated the top six in the combined standings led by Matteo Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha).

AT THE LAST MOMENT: Vannucci rises to the top

Vannucci set his final time in 1’45.529 to finish three tenths ahead of Jose Luis Perez Gonzalez (Accolade Smrz Racing BGR). Samuel Di Sora (ProDina Kawasaki Racing), who led the proceedings a few minutes from the checkered flag, was demoted to third place.

THREE MANUFACTURERS IN THE TOP 4: In a pocket handkerchief

Lennox Lehmann (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) finished fourth on the handlebars of his KTM RC 390 R, less than a tenth ahead of Dutch rookie Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki), who made a mistake in turn n° 11 in FP1. Humberto Maier (Yamaha MS Racing/AD78 Latin America Team) inherited sixth place less than a tenth from second-placed Perez Gonzalez.

A CRAZY WEEKEND: A steady pace from Friday

Petr Svoboda (Fusport – RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) finished seventh in the combined standings, ahead of Dirk Geiger (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing), second KTM rider. Mirko Gennai (Team BrCorse), who was among the top three on the first day, finally inherited the ninth fastest time ahead of Daniel Mogeda (Team #109 Kawasaki), who completes the Top 10.

LEADER IN FP1…. but 11th overall

Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki) finished 11th overall in the two sessions. He is the highest ranked driver not to improve his time. With a lap of 1’50.070, he still led the opening session, but it wasn’t enough in the afternoon. Fenton Seabright (Kawasaki GP Project) was 12th ahead of a trio of Italians: Alessandro Zanca (Team#109 Kawasaki), Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse) and Gabriele Mastroluca (Arco Motor University Team).

TO NOTE…

Kas Beekmans (Sublime Racing by MS Racing) set the 19th fastest time after making a mistake in FP1 on turn 5. Ruben Bijman (Arco Motor University Team) also crashed at the end of FP1 in turn 9. He finished 16th in the combined standings. Shengjunjie Zhou (China Racing Team) is the last driver ranked in 32nd position, with a best lap of 1’53.896.
