Vandalism and Threats: The Tragic Case of Jonas Aarseth Henriksen

From the summer of 2021 until he was found murdered on 17 August this year, Jonas Aarseth Henriksen (30) was subjected to a number of episodes of vandalism, threats and tagging.

As recently as a few weeks before he died, on the night of August 4, Henriksen’s green truck “Hulken” was exposed to damage. Only days later – on the night of August 7 – someone threw yellow paint on his car.

The video showing the vandalism on the lorry was taken at 03.38 on the night of 4 August – less than two weeks before Henriksen was found dead. Video: Private / Batong Media Show more

Meet at Hønefoss

After the murder, his family questioned whether the police did enough with these cases. On Wednesday afternoon, they were in a meeting at the police station at Hønefoss, where exactly this was the topic.

The charge related to vandalism

This is confirmed by Kjell Johan Abrahamsen, head of prosecution in the South-East police district, to Dagbladet.

– I experienced it as a good meeting. We agreed that what was said will remain between us who were present, for the sake of the investigation into the murder case, he says.

Abrahamsen understands that the family is critical.

– I find that the family asks us timely questions, which I understand very well. At the same time, I feel that we have a good dialogue, says the prosecutor.

– Feels a responsibility

In connection with a detention meeting in the case last week, in which several of Henriksen’s survivors also participated, assistance lawyer Marijana Lozic described “great frustration”.

– First and foremost from Jonas himself, who felt that he was not heard and taken seriously. The family feels a responsibility to follow it up. If it turns out to be a connection, it is very serious, she told Dagbladet after the court hearing.

After Wednesday’s meeting with the police, she has the following comment:

– The family experienced it as a good meeting, where they had some questions and got answers to them. Then we have to come back to the more detailed content and theme of the meeting, says Lozic.

– Have arrested the most central ones

Vandalism and “quiet” tagging

The police have been reticent to comment on whether they link any of the accused in the murder case to previous incidents that have affected Jonas Aarseth Henriksen.

According to Dagbladet’s information, one of the accused – a 30-year-old man from Elverum – must have admitted to having participated in the vandalism at “Hulken”.

Another accused – a 32-year-old from the Hønefoss area – is to be linked to a car seen in connection with “Tyster-Jonas” tagging this summer, according to Dagbladet’s knowledge.

– I cannot comment on that, but we have received a lot of information through the investigation of the old cases and the murder case, which means that we are starting to form a certain idea about this, says police attorney Tine Henriksen to Dagbladet.

– All natural

Henriksen also understands that the family questions the police’s work.

– It is only natural that this case has had a tragic outcome. There is also ongoing work on the assessment of these previous cases. At one point it becomes natural to look at whether the police could and should have done something differently, she says.

Previously convicted of deprivation of liberty

She goes on to say that early in the investigation investigations were launched against the previous cases, but that the police’s main priority has been to solve the murder case.

The detention period for the first man who was arrested and charged with the murder, a 28-year-old from Rena, expires on Friday. The police have requested that he be imprisoned for another four weeks, Henriksen says.

It is currently unclear how he will respond to the petition.
