A van hit the water this afternoon in the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. The nine occupants were able to get to safety with the help of a bystander. Two people were slightly injured.
The incident occurred just after 12 noon this afternoon. A police spokesperson said: AT5 that the van probably fell into the water while parking.
Before the fire brigade arrived, all occupants were rescued from the water. A bystander jumped into the water and managed to open one of the doors as the van slowly disappeared underwater. At the same time, a number of occupants on the other side were also able to exit the van and swim to shore.
Safe on the shore
Safe on the shore, everyone was checked by an ambulance crew. Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A diving team checked to see if anyone was still in the vehicle, but it turned out, according to NH News not the case. The bus itself was pulled out of the water a little later by the fire brigade and put on the side.
