Van Brenk new chairman of 50PLUS, Van Rooijen possibly party leader NOW

Corrie van Brenk succeeds Henk Krol as new party leader of 50PLUS, a spokesman for the party confirmed to NU.nl on Sunday. The MPs of 50PLUS also write in a statement that they can imagine that the party will call on Martin van Rooijen as the new party leader.

Van Brenk has been a member of the House of Representatives on behalf of 50PLUS since 2017. She previously worked as the president of the union Abvakabo FNV.

In the statement, the MPs also report that a new party leader will be chosen. This member of the House of Representatives may become Martin van Rooijen.

“After the message that Krol is leaving 50PLUS as seat robber, the procedure candidate will be reopened. The 50PLUS MPs can imagine that the general members’ meeting as the highest body appeals to our former secretary of state, former MP and Member of Parliament Martin van Rooijen, the undisputed best debater of 50PLUS, “they write.

“He knows the pension issue like no other, has great authority inside and outside the party and will certainly be the face of a very alive 50PLUS, which stands up for the voters. He will help 50PLUS to a resounding election victory.”

‘Krol finished today as seat robber’

In the statement, the 50PLUS fractions of the Upper and Lower Houses are hard at Krol. They state that problems within the party started when Krol was “out of everyone” in it AD made an appeal to allow Geert Dales to join the future group. “In the staged play, Dales said he felt ‘attacked’ by this call,” they write.

Due to conflicts with Dales, seven of the nine main board members have recently left. Ten of the twelve provincial presidents and a considerable number of States members openly expressed their confidence in the party chairman. According to the groups, Krol did not stand up for the group and did not provide any clarity about the future. “He declined to meet with his group on this issue, creating an unworkable situation and ending up as a seat robber today,” the statement said.

Party leader Henk Krol announced on Sunday morning in a statement that he would leave 50PLUS and start a new movement: the Party for the Future. Independent MP Femke Merel van Kooten also joins the new party.

Krol confirmed in TV show WNL that he will participate in next March’s elections with his new party and that he wants to be the party leader. “If the members want it, yes, yes.”
