Valorant Patch 1.04 improves viability of Viper – Africa Daily News

Valorant patch 1.04 is live and brings major buffs to Viper and his abilities.

This week’s patch aims to level the playing field for Brimstone and Viper. Viper has one of the lowest selection rates in Valorant since release. Viper’s abilities hurt his teammates and aren’t the easiest to pick up or deploy in tense situations. Playing Toxic Agent was more complicated than it was worth in coordinated teams. For these reasons, she was often replaced by Omen or Brimstone as the controller. The poison gas Viper spits out will still damage his teammates, but is more potent with the changes to come.

Changes to Viper

Viper pit

  • Maximum time outside of his ultimate before collapsing has been reduced from 5 >>> 12 seconds
  • Viper can hold the ability key to drop his ultimate early
  • Viper’s Pit enemies have their mini-card obscured and do not provide mini-card detection to their allies.
  • Increased the brightness of the enemy red glow at the edge of Viper’s near vision

Rot

  • Enemy disintegration per second increased from 10 to 15 for all sources.
  • After exiting Viper’s Smoke, enemy decay continues for 2.5 seconds before starting to fade

Fuel

  • Having both the Poison Cloud and Toxic Shield active does not consume additional fuel beyond the cost of having one active.

The biggest bonus here for Viper is the increased damage done by Decay. Before this change, enemies pushed through his abilities which were meant to deter aggression. Now Decay from Viper Poison Cloud, Viper’s Pit, and Smoke Screen will deal more damage over time. It will also take longer for enemies to regain health lost during decomposition, which will cause most to think twice before pushing. Viper’s fuel adjustments will allow him to use both abilities and consume significantly less fuel. Viper is now able to play outside of his ultimate for longer and deploy it faster than before. Enemies playing inside Viper’s Pit now have a greater advantage when fighting against it.

More changes

Most agents haven’t received any changes except for Brimstone, Raze, and Cypher. Brimstone and Raze’s ultimate increased from 6 to 7 Ult, requiring a little extra effort to access their powerful gear. Brimstone’s stimulation beacon has been adjusted and will now only affect your teammates. This includes the rate of fire buff and allies will be able to see the Stim Beacon radius. Cypher is now able to collect his Cyber Cage during the purchase phase, which is a minor but welcome addition.

The last major change made with Valorant Patch 1.04 is the Classic’s right click behavior. Standard pistol shotgun breath has been changed to behave consistently when running, jumping, or walking.

Classic

  • Fixed a bug where the execution inaccuracy on the right click was much higher than expected
    • running added a penalty of 1.5 as it referred to our generalized stroke error curves for pistols
  • Fixed bug where jumping did not have an inaccuracy penalty
  • The current spread is changed from 3.4 >>> 2.1
  • Jump gap changed from 1.9 >>> 2.3
  • Rate deviation changed from 1.9 >>> 1.95
  • Added 10% bonus to crouching and stationary accuracy

Viper won’t become a meta-agent overnight, but with patch changes like these, she’s on the right track. Riot regularly rolls out fixes and that’s one of the refreshing aspects of Valorant.
