PlayStation 5 architect Mark Cerny unveiled his favorite SSD to expand the console’s storage.
The PS5 finally enabled the SSD storage expansion this week through an update released to beta users. So far, two manufacturers have confirmed drives that meet Sony’s long list of requirements: Seagate e Western Digital.
In a message posted on Twitter, Cerny – who designed the PS5’s hardware as well as the PS4 and Vita – revealed that he had purchased a WD_BLACK SN850 with a heatsink. The SN850 retails for $139.99 for 500GB, $249.99 for 1TB and $429.99 for 2TB. Slightly cheaper versions are available without heat sinks, but Sony recommends going for SSDs with the latter included.
Cerny also gave his blessing to the FireCuda 530 SSD made by Seagate on Sunday. On Twitter, the engineer liked a tweet asking if the rival drive was also a good option for expanding the PlayStation 5’s internal storage.
Our solution to our very active two gamer PS5 household? His-and-hers SSDs ????
