Polimaracaibo officials dismantled, on Tuesday, July 28, a clandestine company that operated as a call center in the Valle Frío sector, from where they contacted Latino citizens outside their countries of origin, as well as Venezuelans to collect their personal, bank details and credit cards until culminating in a scam plan.

The alleged company, called Smart Insurance Service, does not have the trade register or the permit of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) for the use of the radio space, in addition to being linked to numerous complaints related to sending the text message : “Hi, I’m Maria”, seeking to obtain information from the victims by offering false currency sales, they disclosed through a press release on July 29.

At the site the arrest of the person in charge of the operations of the place, Noris Morillo, was carried out for the crime of resistance to authority and interfering with police work. Along with her, seven other people from the same establishment were also apprehended.

The procedure was done after a series of complaints and inquiries related to phone scams.

Police officials approached the residence located on 84th street between 3F and 2B avenues in the Valle Frío sector, Santa Lucía parish, for the alleged act related to computer crimes.

The director of Citizen Security of the Mayor’s Office of Maracaibo, César Garrido, indicated that the investigations of the case continue, as part of the actions “against the local mafias that seek to operate and destabilize the local tranquility, to the detriment of the good faith of the persons”.

At the scene of the events, two laptops and seven CPUs were seized, recordings of the calls made, as well as documents with the identity and bank information of the people contacted.

The case and the evidence were transferred to the Polimaracaibo command and the Prosecutor’s Office was notified of the procedure carried out.

In the middle of the month, the Cicpc had warned about this form of scam: “Hello, this is María, I changed my number.”
