‘Vaccine does not mean the end of malaria, but an incentive to continue now’

Africa correspondent Elles van Gelder:

“I have seen so many children with malaria, with high fever in the hospital, shivering in their beds. Many parents hoped that this vaccine is the solution.

In many countries there was a fear that the corona pandemic would weaken attention for diseases such as malaria. I hear from many organizations here that we should not forget the other diseases. Yes, a lot still needs to be done against corona and the vaccination rate is low, but a lot of hands are also needed against malaria, TB and HIV.”
