The Province of Buenos Aires and the City of Buenos Aires are sending the summons to finish vaccinating all people at riskat the latest next week. These are those over 60 – vaccination is almost completed – and those between 18 and 59 years old with previous illnesses. This opens the doors – as Page / 12 anticipated – to the summons, starting the week of June 14, of people without previous illnesses, starting with those between 50 and 59 years old. The rate depends on the number of vaccines that are arriving and the decision to be made to dedicate part of the vaccination to maximizing vaccination with dose 1.
The Casa Rosada reported on Tuesday that during the weekend and the Monday records were broken in vaccination. On the first business day of this week, 239,781 people received their dose, compared to 156,463 on Saturday and 194,137 on Sunday. At that rate – the official version pointed out – the 10 million vaccinated will be exceeded this Wednesday.
The Province of Buenos Aires sent new citations on Tuesday and will do the same on Wednesday to advance in different bands: there are about 560,000 Buenos Aires people over 60, between 50 and 59 with previous illnesses, 40 to 49 in the same situation, and pregnant. That amount should be able to be vaccinated in a few days, because the Buenos Aires district applies between 130,000 and 150,000 daily vaccinations.
Added to this are 800,000 more people who are in the 18 to 39 age group, in security personnel and in teaching and non-teaching staff. At the current rate, it should be completed in a week or ten days. So the next step could be taken in the week starting June 14.
It is necessary to make the caveat that there are already districts within the Province of Buenos Aires that are more advanced. It happens that vaccines are distributed by population, but some municipalities have fewer registered or younger people, so they were able to advance more quickly. In fact, many citations have already reached people between the ages of 18 and 39.
In CABA the panorama is not too different. Minister Fernán Quirós announced on Tuesday the opening of the registration of people between 18 and 44 years old, with previous illnesses. The calculation is that they will begin to vaccinate on Thursday and that the process will conclude by the end of next week. Teachers and security personnel enter that same strip. The conclusion is similar: in the week of June 14, people from 50 to 59 with no previous illnesses can be vaccinated.
Along the way, the question of dose 2 will have to be settled. It is possible that the issue will be dealt with in the National Immunization Commission or in the Federal Health Commission, which is made up of all ministers. Minister Vizzotti has already advanced the policy of completing the vaccination, that is, applying the two doses, but rather with a distance of 90 days between one and the other. Most likely, an agreement will be reached on the following basis:
* In the case of Sputnik V, as soon as batches of dose 2 arrive, apply them, because they cannot be used as the first dose. Vizzotti has already announced that a plane is arriving in which part of the cargo will be dose 2.
* AstraZeneca: the second dose between ten and twelve weeks after the first. A lot of distance is put between the two doses just to allow time for more people to be vaccinated with dose 1.
The fundamental objective of privileging the first dose is to immunize as many citizens as possible and thus reduce the possibility that they will suffer the Covid in a serious way, with hospitalization. With all at-risk people vaccinated and moving over new swaths of 50-year-old adults with no prior illnesses, the pressure on intensive therapies should begin to ease.
