use your smartphone to contact you, not to share false information

Countries are turning in on themselves, the world is adapting to stem the pandemic … and a lot of deliberately untrue information is circulating about the coronavirus epidemic.

The coronavirus crisis is here to stay. Here we are. Our colleagues from Numerama mobilized very early to bring sound advice, welcome lighting or even scientific decryption to fight fake news and rumors.

Misinformation – and there is no other word for it – is running at full speed now. One of the tips we would like to relay: use your smartphone to contact your loved ones instead of relaying fake news about the coronavirus (Covid-19). Take news of your relatives and friends, call them … especially those who are most vulnerable and find themselves stranded at home.

At the same time, pay close attention to the information circulating on social networks or different messaging services. Do not share information that does not come directly from a trusted source (government, official bodies, experts …), and take the time to go back to the source of the information in doubt. Avoid believing a message that advocates anything unless it is explicitly requested by a doctor.

A disrupted schedule

As a media specializing in new technologies, our planning is turned upside down. Conferences are canceled, sales are postponed, the future is uncertain… How to react during this coronavirus crisis? Because you keep reading so much, our mission remains important. We will calmly apply the recommendations of the government, we will remain vigilant, we will remain active and above all avoid spreading false news.

Even if everyone talks about coronavirus, it seems important to us to approach this crisis with a different state of mind. Coronavirus (Covid-19) is not a trend Twitter which will be forgotten in a few days. Our daily lives are turned upside down, but new technologies can help us adapt. The Internet is not only a means of spreading false news, it is also a means of living. Replace social interactions with video calls, work effectively at home (with the right material), entertaining ourselves from the sofa (discovering what Disney + has to offer us), consume at a distance instead of exposing oneself unnecessarily in shopping centers …

Tell us in the comments what you would like to read on Frandroid in the coming weeks. Our team will be fully mobilized for our readers who have trusted us for 11 years.
