In his native Jamaica, Usain Bolt is something of a national hero. Now the 33-year-old former athletics star has become a father for the first time – and receives congratulations from the very top.
The birth on Monday was confirmed by none other than Prime Minister of the Caribbean, Andrew Holness: “Congratulations to our sprint legends Usain Bolt and Kasi Bennett on the birth of their little daughter,” the politician wrote on Twitter. Local media previously reported that Bolt’s partner gave birth to a girl on Sunday.

The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper wrote that Bennett gave birth to the baby in a hospital in the Jamaican capital, Kingston. “I can’t wait to see her and hug her,” the sheet quoted the former world-class sprinter’s mother, Jennifer Bolt. The baby is fine.

Bolt announced in January that he and Bennett would be parents. On Instagram, he wrote about a photo of the model: “I just want to say that a king or queen is on the way.” In March, he announced that the couple was expecting a girl. In a video on TikTok, he jokingly warned potential future admirers of his daughter to stay away from her: “Every man! Every boy! Don’t play with me.”

Bolt is a world record holder in the 100 meter and 200 meter races and has won eight Olympic gold medals. He ended his career in 2017.
