USA wins Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits

USA wins Ryder Cup. When Collin Morikawa with a one-hole lead took his single match against Viktor Hovland to the 18th hole, it was clear that the USA would come up with the 14.5 points required for victory. The Norwegian won the last hole but Morikawa’s 0.5 points meant that the USA secured the Ryder Cup.

Europe came to the 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup as the reigning champion after the triumph in Paris 2018. Due to the corona pandemic, this year’s edition was postponed by one year. When the law was set, US law looked enormously much better on paper than Europe’s. The United States was better ranked and in better shape. Europe invested in routine. It was not enough and it was mainly the veterans of the European team who did not get it on Whistling Straits.
In the USA, all 12 players delivered and they looked difficult to beat from the start.

They kicked off the Ryder Cup on Friday and won the first foursomes session 3-1 and the foursball session 3-1. All the American players looked stable and only the Spaniards Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia gave them a fight.

Saturday continued in the same style. The USA won foursome with 3-1 in the morning. In the afternoon’s four balls, things went a little better for Europe but the score was divided 2-2.

Before the final singles matches, the USA led 11-5 and only needed to win three and share one match. Scottie Scheffler scored the first point. Patrick Cantlay the other. Bryson DeChambeau the third and Collin Morikawa secured the US victory in the Ryder Cup.

Several matches are still going on and now the USA is chasing a historic victory. The Ryder Cup record is held by the United States, which beat Great Britain in 1967 by the numbers 23.5-8.5. Since Europe started competing as a team in 1979, Europe has twice and the United States once won with the numbers 18.5-9.5.
