USA: Texas, Florida and Minnesota want to relax corona measures

In the United States, some states want to loosen protective measures to contain the corona virus. Several news agencies report this unanimously. For example, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said current closed stores could reopen next Friday if they delivered, shipped, or made goods available for pickup.

The reopening of parks under state administration will begin on Monday. However, visitors would have to follow protective measures. Schools remained closed this school year.

US President Donald Trump had on Thursday Guidelines announced that will bring the US back to normal in three phases and the economy should gradually be reopened. A nationwide closure could not be a long-term solution, Trump said. However, he had not given a precise schedule and left the decision to the governors of the 50 states.

Not only the Texas governor Abbott had reacted to it a little later. Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis also allowed communities, according to the AP news agency, to reopen parks and beaches if they could provide the necessary security measures. Also in the state of Vermont, dealers can reopen and construction can resume under certain conditions.

Trump supports anti-lockdown protests

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced that parks, hiking trails, golf courses, outdoor shooting ranges, and fishing bait shops, among other things, could reopen if visitors followed protective measures. “It is important for us to stay active and enjoy nature while preventing the spread of Covid-19,” said Walz in a statement. Governor Gretchen Whitmer plans to restart parts of the economy in Michigan from May 1st.

Trump had shown solidarity on Twitter during the day with conservatives protesting against the protective measures outside government buildings. On Twitter, Trump wrote, among others, “Liberate Michigan!” and “Liberate Minnesota!” – the governors there, Whitmer and Walz, are both Democrats and had taken strict protective measures.

Trump’s demands appear to come too quickly, even for some Trump supporters. Republican governor of West Virginia, Jim Justice, opposed a quick return to normality, according to the AP news agency. There had to be more tests for the corona virus before the restrictions could be reduced. “I will not do anything that I feel in my heart that it is wrong and is putting our people at risk,” said Justice.

Cuomo: Trump should “get up and go to work”

With the democratic governor Andrew Cuomo, Trump is already crossed. After various skirmishes, the two politicians had again exchanged blows in the past few weeks.

While New York’s governor called for more money from Washington at his daily press conference, Trump tweeted that Cuomo should spend more time “making” and less time “complaining”. When asked about this, Cuomo reacted defiantly: “If he sits at home and watches TV, he should perhaps get up and go to work”.
