USA: new jump in housing starts in July

In July, 1.496 million new construction sites were started in the United States, compared to 1.220 million in June, according to data revised upwards.

Housing starts are up for the third month in a row after plunging in March and April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In detail, the first stone was laid for 940,000 individual houses (+ 8.2%), and for 547,000 buildings.

Last year’s level was also caught up, as housing starts were 23.4% higher than in July 2019.

Building permits, a leading indicator of the real estate market, are also up sharply, by 18.8% compared to June and 9.4% compared to July 2019.
