On the fifth attempt – Gevers managed to get into Trump’s profile on the fifth try, writing “maga2020!” (acronym for the Trumpian slogan “make America great again”). In an instant, he found himself managing an account from 87 million followers. “I expected to be blocked after four tests or at least to be asked for additional information,” the researcher told the Dutch newspaper.
Thanks – For Gevers it is an encore: yes in 2016 he succeeded in the same feat always against Trump, who was then a simple candidate for the White House, using another famous Trumpian phrase, “yourefired”. After the feat, the researcher tried to contact via Twitter Trump’s campaign team to report the leak, including tagging the White House, CIA and FBI, initially unsuccessful. Only after two days – according to Gevers’ account – the Services contacted him to thank him.
The Twitter version – Twitter however denies its reconstruction. A spokesperson for the social media denied what the newspaper reported: “We have increased security measures for a group of important profiles: American accounts linked to the elections, including federal branches of government.”
