GUANTANAMO – The SARS-CoV-2 corona virus that causes COVID-19 spreads in a warship United States (US) currently operating. Ship operations were paralyzed or stopped because US Navy personnel tested positive for infection.

The warship hit by the outbreak was the USS Milwaukee.

The US Navy declined to disclose how many of its personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 but stressed that the crew had been fully vaccinated.

The sailors infected with the virus have been separated from the rest of the crew, but remain on board. Some who are infected are reported to have mild symptoms.

The USS Milwaukee is currently stopping at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, where it is stopping en route to be stationed at US Southern Command. The USS Milwaukee leaves the US on December 14, 2021.

In a statement on Christmas Eve, the Navy said that the exact variant of COVID-19 on board had not been determined and noted that all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines were followed. “Includes contact tracing and testing protocols,” the US Navy statement said.

“The ship is following an aggressive mitigation strategy in accordance with Navy and CDC guidelines,” the Navy said in a statement, quoted from its official website, Saturday (12/25/2021).

“Those vaccinated against the virus continue to show effectiveness against serious diseases.”

This is not the first US warship to have had to implement quarantine measures to combat the COVID-19 outbreak since the start of the pandemic. In the most outrageous of incidents, thousands of sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt were forced into quarantine last year, and at least one died, while the ship’s captain was fired for sending emails pleading for his crew to be evacuated.
