US launches satellite project to spot Chinese dams Point to the downstream country
Reuters reported on Dec. 14, the Stimson Research Institute’s Mekong Dam Observation Center. Partially funded by the US State Department, the US State Department has launched a project using satellites to monitor and monitor water levels in China’s dams in the Mekong.
Brian Eiler of the Stimson Research Institute said: The project examines at least 11 dams, saying that all dams have complex structures to primarily optimize hydropower generation of Chinese power plants, regardless of the downstream impact, where 60 million people. People depend on rivers for fishing and agriculture.
While China has rejected such research by the United States. The Chinese Institute of Renewable Energy Engineering said on Dec. 4 that hydropower was clearly beneficial to neighboring Mekong. And retaining water in the reservoir during the flood season will help prevent both flood and drought.
China and the United States have conflicts in the South China Sea. And both countries have competing agencies working with the Mekong countries. China has cooperation from Lan Xang – Mekong, which is located in Beijing. And the United States has Mekong-US cooperation
