– According to Bloomberg News on the 11th, Hayes Pan, a member of the media, was cut off after contacting his editor at 11:30 am on the 7th. It is said that the last time he left his home surrounded by security personnel in plain clothes was captured.

Bloomberg News said he had sought information about Pan’s whereabouts from the Chinese government and the Chinese embassy in Washington, DC after his disappearance. As a result, Bloomberg discovered on the 10th that the plate was being held by Chinese authorities on charges of engaging in a criminal activity that could threaten national security.

A spokesman for Bloomberg said, “We are very concerned about the condition of the plate. We are doing everything we can to help him while getting more information.”

Pan, a Chinese national, began working at Bloomberg in 2017. Previously, he went through CNBC, CBC, Al Jazeera, and Thomson Reuters. He introduced himself as a reporter on his Twitter profile, Bloomberg explained, but he was working as a news assistant who was unable to report independently due to local regulations that Chinese nationals should only act as news assistants in foreign media companies in China.

Chinese authorities told Bloomberg that “Pan is detained by the Beijing National Security Agency under Chinese law for engaging in criminal activities that jeopardize national security.” “Pan is fully guaranteed legal rights, and his family is also I know.”

– It is not yesterday and today that China is putting pressure on foreign media journalists working locally. China canceled and expelled about 10 reporters from US media companies after deteriorating relations with the US this year. Cheong Lei, a Chinese Australian anchor who worked for CGTN, a Chinese CCTV broadcast channel, was also detained in August for harming national security. In September, Australian Financial Review correspondent Michael Smith and Beijing correspondent Bill Buttles, Australia’s ABC Broadcasting Station, were notified that they could not leave the country until they were investigated by the Chinese police. Could leave. These were the last Australian media correspondents to remain in China.
