Donald Trump or Joe Biden. Polling stations in Indiana and Kentucky were the first states to complete voting operations in the United States at 6 am local time, midnight in Italy. A record number of 100 million people voted early this year and long queues at the polling stations all day. Voter turnout for election day was 67%, the highest in 100 years.
After visiting his campaign headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, Trump will spend the rest of the day in the White House, awaiting the election results. Campaign officials for the president’s re-election have created an electoral ‘war room’ in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the West Wing, where they will receive updates from various states and inform Trump on the progress of the vote. A spokesperson clarified that the ‘war room’ expenses are financed entirely from campaign funds and will not weigh on the taxpayers’ pockets. Federal laws in fact prevent the use of public money to finance political activities.
Biden will await the outcome of the vote in Wilmington, Delaware, with Kamala Harris, who in the past few hours is the press engaged in the final stages of the election campaign in Michigan, one of the ‘battleground States’.
