Also known as the “Queen of Tension” by her fans, Clark was successful worldwide. Until the age of 90, she wrote one novel a year. In the United States alone, it sold more than 100 million books.

Clark’s career was not straightforward: as a young woman, she initially worked as a stewardess and later took care of her children. When her husband died suddenly, Clark began offering publishers their short stories at the age of 35. She received 40 rejections before her first novel finally appeared in 1975: “Sleep well, my sweet child” is in its 75th edition today.
