In the same process, the Los Angeles jury yesterday ordered US semiconductor company Broadcom to pay $ 270 million to Caltech University.
The $ 1.1 billion total is one of the highest amounts of patent infringement compensation to date in the United States.
Both companies are accused by Caltech of having infringed 4 of the university’s patent rights to wireless transmission technology. The university is using the technology from Broadcom for chips, which Apple uses for its iPhones, iPads and watches.
Both Apple and Broadcom deny patent infringements. They announced an appeal against the verdict.
