US Congressman Criticizes Biden’s Kyiv Trip: Ukraine Is Not Our Friend

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Member of the US Congress from the Republican Party, Paul Gosar criticized President Joe’s visit Biden the Ukraine. Through his Twitter account, Paul Gosar stated that Biden’s visit to Ukraine was a slap to every American.

“Joe Biden visiting Ukraine is a slap in the face for every American, especially the people of East Palestine, Ohio,” said Gosar on Monday, February 21, 2023. He was referring to the derailment of a train dumping toxic chemicals near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border on 3 February 2023. He also said, “Ukraine is not our friend, and Russia is not our enemy.”

In a separate tweet, Paul Gosar also criticized Biden for prioritizing aid to Ukraine. Throughout 2022, military aid to Ukraine will reach more than US$ 100 billion. “Biden’s Spending Priority is Ukraine, over $100,000,000,000. Ohio: US$ 0. Who do you think the actual constituents of this Regime are?” wrote Gosar.

Gosar also accused the Biden administration of being “rogue” by funding Ukraine’s efforts to expel Russian troops sent by President Vladimir Putin. “Congress did not authorize a war against Russia or money to support Ukraine ‘forever’ including paying Ukrainian pensions,” he said.

Paul Gosar’s statement was criticized by Twitter users. Some people accuse him of being evil and pro-Putin.

“Evil and sick gosar. He didn’t belong in Congress. It’s understandable why his family hates him. What could those who voted for him think?” former Nixon White House adviser and CNN contributor John Dean wrote on Twitter on Monday, February 21, 2023.

“Wow, Gosar is an exposed Russian asset,” Cindy Banyai, a Democratic Party politician, said in a tweet.

After his trip to Ukraine, Biden pledged another $460 million in security assistance on Monday. Biden made the promise when he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during an unannounced visit to the capital ahead of the year anniversary of the Russian invasion.

“One year later, Kyiv is standing, Ukraine is standing, Democracy is standing,” Biden said after a meeting at the Mariinsky Palace. “Americans support you and the world supports you.”
