US bans products from Huawei and other Chinese companies | Technician

US media and communications regulator FCC will ban equipment from Huawei and four other Chinese technology companies from the US. According to the government organization, this is the result of a new ban on devices that pose an “unacceptable risk to national security,” according to the FCC.

In addition to telecommunications group Huawei, ZTE is also affected by the measure. In addition, the FCC no longer grants licenses for the import or sale of products from Hikvision and Dahua Technology, known for their smart cameras, and radio system maker Hytera.

The US government accuses Huawei and other Chinese tech companies of allowing spying through back doors into their technology. Huawei has always denied such allegations. The new restrictions are necessitated by a new law that US President Joe Biden signed into law last November, the FCC said.

Other countries

Chinese companies have significant influence on telecommunications. Last week, Statistics Netherlands reported that of all sectors, the Dutch telecommunications sector is most dependent on imports from China. In 2021, nearly 26 percent of all goods imported by the telecommunications sector came from the Asian country.

Countries other than the United States have also banned or restricted the use of Huawei telecommunications equipment. This has happened in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan and Sweden, among others. In the Netherlands, Huawei no longer supplies basic equipment for 5G networks. The Chinese group still supplies equipment more on the edge of networks for the much faster Internet.
