US airport websites targeted by Russian hackers – Computers – News

Fourteen American airport websites were hit on Monday by cyber attacks by the Russian hacker group Killnet. It would affect public websites, so that actual air traffic is not hindered.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, among others, were according to CNN victim of ddos attacks carried out by Killnet. A few hours later, most of the affected websites would be accessible again, while air travel and waiting times would not be affected. However, during the cyber attacks it would have been difficult for consumers to book flights via relevant websites.

Killnet is a pro-Russian hacker group that has carried out several cyber attacks on NATO countries since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Almost all of the cases involved DDoS attacks on government agency websites. For example, responsibility for cyber attacks on US government websites was claimed last week. It is unclear whether the hacktivists have direct links with Moscow or operate on their own. Killnet was earlier this year target of the hacker group Anonymous after alleged threats to Italian public services.
