Urgent: Biden Meets with Congressional Leaders Amid Critical Ammunition Shortage in Ukrainian Armed Forces

White House National Security Advisor John Kirby noted the critical situation at the front due to a lack of ammunition in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to him, soldiers are “making very difficult decisions about where to shoot and what to shoot with” and “they are running out of ammunition.”

“I’m not in a position to put a time stamp and say that by such and such a date they will lose the war, but they are certainly starting to lose territory – territory that they took from the Russians. And now they have to give it back to the Russians.” because they can’t – they can’t fight them off,” Kirby said.

He also noted that Ukraine needs financial assistance for defense needs, which is stuck in Congress.

“We need her (help – ed.) now. I won’t even suggest that it may be too late. We are already in a sense too late. They (AFU military – ed.) lost the city of Avdiivka literally because of ammunition “So in some ways it’s already having a dramatic impact on the battlefield,” Kirby said.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries suggested the meeting was productive, but both described the Ukraine talks as “intense.”

Schumer said that during the meeting he noted President Volodymyr Zelensky’s warning that “if they don’t get help quickly, Ukraine could fall.”

Biden meets with Congressional leaders

On Tuesday, February 27, US President Joe Biden met with congressional leaders at the White House. The main topics of the negotiations were the problem of approving aid to Ukraine and avoiding a “shutdown” – suspension of government work due to a delay in approving the US state budget.

Amid a lack of assistance, the Defense Forces recently had to withdraw from the city of Avdievka in the Donetsk region. According to Zelensky, Biden understands that this is a consequence of weakening support for our country.

Delay in US defense aid

On February 13, the US Senate approved a bill providing $95 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. In particular, more than $61 billion is provided for Ukraine.

For the bill to take effect, it must be approved by the US House of Representatives and signed by President Joe Biden.

However, on February 16, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson refused to bring the document to a vote.

Congressmen went on vacation until February 28, which once again delayed the approval and provision of US assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
