Urgent appeal to blood donors

Faced with the significant drop in its blood supply, Héma-Québec is making an urgent appeal to its donors, as well as to all those who have never rolled up their sleeves.

The arrival of the seventh wave of COVID-19 in the middle of summer led Héma-Québec to solicit the population since its blood supply could reach a critical level. The organization must collect, weekly, 500 more donations over the next few weeks. The needs concern all blood groups, but more particularly O-, A+ and A-.

“Experience has shown that, in summer, it is always difficult to maintain the blood supply in an optimal way. In order to cope with the constraints related to the pandemic and the summer holidays, making an appointment remains the best way to properly plan a blood donation. Each donation can save three lives,” explains Héma-Québec in a press release.

Greater flexibility

The organization also invites donors to respect the time of their appointment and, in the event of a setback, to take the time to cancel it in order to leave the time slots available for other people. In the context, Héma-Québec indicates, however, that it is showing greater flexibility for donors presenting themselves without an appointment.

On the Web, you can register at one of the Globule centers or even for a mobile blood drive at jedonne.hema-quebec.qc.ca or by calling 1 800 343-7264 (SANG).
