Former Uraya Heap vocalist John Lawton died suddenly on June 29 at the age of 74. This is clear from a message from the group on its Facebook page.
It says that he was not ill and went to sleep.
He was born in Halifax. Before Uriah Heep, he played in three bands in his homeland – The Deans, West One and Stonewall.
In the late 60’s he moved to West Germany, where he sang in the group “Friend of Lucifer”.
He joined Uraya Heap in 1976. He has four albums with her.
The performance of “July Morning” is emblematic, with which the supporters of the hippie movement welcome the sun on July 1. The song is from 1971. Since 2004 he has been performing regularly in Bulgaria during the Kaliakra Rock Fest.
