Through direct messages (DM), Selena Gomez poked Zuckerberg and Sandberg to immediately take action on various hate speech on Facebook’s platform. Then Selena Gomez shared the DM to the public.

Now, thanks to a report by The Wall Street Journal, it is known that the ‘Who Says’ singer also sent private emails to Facebook executives to voice his complaints.

Sandberg replied to the email and said that AI Facebook detected 91 percent of the 1.5 million posts that were deleted for violating the platform’s rules on hate speech.

But apparently the answer was not enough for Gomez who responded firmly.

“You refuse to even mention, let alone discuss, the problems Facebook has with white supremacists and bigots,” Gomez wrote in an October 10, 2020 email to Sandberg and other executives.

He includes screenshots of a Facebook group he says promotes violent ideologies, according to the Journal, and says there are plenty of hateful and deceitful groups that can cause people to be hurt or, worse, to be killed.

Gomez appeared to have expressed her concern in an email after her personal DMs to Zuckerberg and Sandberg went unanswered. He told them in a previously shared DM that there was a serious problem on Facebook, with the platform being used to spread hate, misinformation, racism and bigotry.

“I’m asking both of you to help stop this,” he said in his note, which later appeared for public viewing on one of his Instagram Stories.
