Update: Coronavirus: eight people treated at HUG – News Switzerland: French-speaking Switzerland

Five new cases of coronavirus were identified in Geneva this weekend, bringing to eight the total of patients treated at the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG).

It is the communication unit attached to the ORCA plan (cantonal device in the event of disasters and exceptional situations) activated by the Council of State which informs of these new cases of infection. The information was sent on Sunday at 7 p.m.

These eight people are under strict medical supervision and their entourage is in solitary confinement, the authorities indicate, recalling the protocol to be followed in case of symptoms (fever and cough): do not go to the Emergency Room but call your doctor or the 144 if necessary.

As the countdown advances, there was no rush this weekend in pharmacies. “But we receive a lot of questions, especially by phone,” said the pharmacist in charge of Pharma24, who is open 7 days a week at the foot of the hospital. “There is a great demand for protective equipment – masks and disinfectant solutions, but we are out of stock,” she adds.

The pharmacist refers clients to advice from the Federal Office of Public Health, which recommend washing your hands thoroughly and coughing and sneezing into a tissue or the crook of your elbow. Wearing a mask is not recommended for the general public.
