Upcoming Changes to Windows Single Sign-On Under Digital Markets Act Compliance

Windows 10 and 11 users will soon be asked which account they want to log in with when they log in to a Windows app for the first time. They can choose between the account with which they are logged in to Windows or another account.

Microsoft writes Thursday that it has made the adjustment to comply with the Digital Markets Act, or DMA. The message appears the first time a user opens an app in Windows, where he can log in with a personal Microsoft account or an Entra ID.

If the user chooses to use the same credentials they used to log into Windows, this message will not appear the next time the app is used. If the user chooses not to use the same credentials they used to log into Windows, they will be given the opportunity to log in with a different account. Apps that can be used without logging in will retain that option.

The notifications should appear in the latest versions of Windows 10 and 11 in ‘early 2024’. The feature should be available to every user by March 2024.
