Unusual rescue operation on Untersberg – SALZBURG24

The man from Salzburg had accidentally continued the gorge ramp to the northeast because he had overlooked the further course of the steel cable interrupted there at a short crossing. The 55-year-old was very lucky because he had to cross several climbing routes on his involuntary trip to the unsecured, dangerous terrain and did not crash over the vertical walls.

When the man could neither go back nor forth, he made an emergency call at 5.45 p.m. The responsible head of operations at the Marktschellenberg Mountain Rescue Service tried to find out the exact location of the person who was killed by cell phone contact, who was unharmed and had a firm footing on a heel covered with mountain pines

Due to the very exposed terrain in the vertical and partially overhanging southeast walls of the Berchtesgadener Hochthrons, the mountain rescue service requested a helicopter with a rescue winch.

55-year-old brought to the valley safely on winds

The crew of the intensive care helicopter “Christoph Murnau” arrived at 6.45 p.m. at the Thorerwiese. The rescue pilots took off on a search flight with two local mountain guards who were familiar with the area and were then able to see the climbers far to the northeast of the via ferrata. They hoisted a mountain rescuer onto the site, which secured the man with an emergency seat. The heli-crew then took the rescuer and the 55-year-old with the winch and flew them down into the valley to the Thorer meadow.
