Despite a huge drop in the number of starters during the lockdown, a lot more entrepreneurs joined this summer than last year.

“The fact that fewer people started in April and May can logically be explained by the circumstances”, says Danny Van Assche, managing director at Unizo. “The impact of the crisis was then fully realized. Many starters could or were simply not allowed to start. But, during the lockdown, more than 1,750 people took the step. Many of them may have already quit their job, rented a property. and borrowed money. So they had to continue. “

Unizo noticed that the lockdown has made many people curious about entrepreneurship. Their online starters day – at which they inform interested parties – attracted many more candidate starters than expected in July. “We were aiming for 3,500 visitors. In the end it became 8,000.” There is also a lot of interest for the next starters day, next Tuesday.
